Our city must work for all of its residents and businesses. I’m running for City Council to build a future where your voice is front and center and your needs are prioritized. I am fired up and ready to work for you.

Our day starts and ends on the block we call home. From transportation and parking to affordability, jobs, public safety, and public services, I am already actively listening and taking action to address challenges and highlight opportunities across the 16 neighborhoods of District 1.

  • Helped to pass the parks bond

  • Advocated for small businesses to expand offerings

  • Raised concerns on how the City of Englewood approaches data privacy, surveillance and engages with federal law enforcement

  • Invited and supported neighbors to share public comment both at the City Council and the Code Enforcement Advisory Committee (CEAC)

  • As vice-chair of CEAC, I contributed to a letter addressed to the City Council in response to public comment addressing repeat safety concerns on S. Lincoln

I will be a fresh voice for District 1, and I want to bring all of District 1 with me to the dais, not just the same loud voices we hear from over and over and over.

Meet Englewood District 1 candidate Rick Somerson

Lillian Fuglei | Englewood Herald | February 13, 2026

Although it’s still winter, Englewood is gearing up for election season this spring. The District 1 city council seat is currently vacant, and Rick Somerson is hoping to take the spot at the dais.

Somerson, who is running against Matt Crabtree, was one of the people who applied to fill the vacancy through appointment in December. While he was able to garner support with four votes, he wasn’t able to hit the supermajority of five votes required for appointment.

Now, Somerson is running in the special election that will fill the District 1 seat. He said that when he first applied, he knew he was in for the whole process, even if that meant an election.

Englewood City Council Vacancy to be filled with special election

Council failed to reach supermajority vote to appoint applicant

Englewood’s District 1 voters will soon get a chance to choose their next representative, after city council failed to reach a consensus and appoint an applicant for the vacant seat.

On Dec. 15, during an Englewood City Council meeting, council attempted to fill the District 1 vacancy on council, left by Othoniel Sierra’s election as mayor — the first direct mayoral election in over 70 years
